Emergency Shelter at Coginchaug High School Now Closed

As of 9 p.m. Friday, power had been restored to nearly all residents in Durham and Middlefield.

Fewer than 140 customers in Durham (111) and Middlefield (26) remained without power Friday evening, prompting officials to close the temporary shelter at Coginchaug High School.

The shelter, which was opened after Hurricane Irene left thousands of residents from the two towns without power since last weekend, closed at 9 p.m.

Durham Emergency Management Director Francis Willett said while crews were tired from a long week, he was pleased with the efforts of all involved in the recovery from Irene.
