Daily Five: Nytch and Kean Honored, Lunch Prices Going Up and NFL Players Headline Clinic

2. Lunch Costs Going Up On Wednesday night, the Region 13 Board of Education voted to raise the cost of lunch in the elementary schools to $3.00, up from the current $2.75.

According to Mark Basil, director of Food Services for the District, the current price has remained steady for five years. The increase is due to the process in which the federal government reimburses school lunches.

Milk prices will remain at $.50.

3. Honored for Being Honored Memorial School nurse JoAnne Nytch and Coginchaug boys tennis coach Karen Kean were honored Wednesday night by the Board of Education.

Earlier this year, Nytch was named .

"I thank you for recognizing me. I feel very honored to be a part of District 13 and also to be recognized by the School Nurse Association," said Nytch, who's been with the district since 1987.

Last month, Kean received .

"Thank you. I just want to say how honored and humbled I am by this award. It's just breathtaking to me. I also feel I'm the lucky one to be able to coach the kids in this system and I think Region 13 has had a wonderful year," Kean said.

4. NFL Players to Lead Local Clinic Football players aged 8-14 are invited to attend the 9th Annual JL Sports/NFL Youth Clinic on June 16 at Hamden Hall's Beckerman Athletic Center. As many as a dozen NFL players will be on hand to work with participants. on the event.

5. Tag and Bake Sale The Church of the Epiphany, 196 Main Street, Durham, will hold its annual Tag and Bake Sale on Saturday, June 16, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall behind the church. Entry to this event is free.

Items may be dropped off at the parish hall from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 14 and 15. Please make sure items are clean and usable. This event will be held rain or shine.  For further information, call the church office at 860-349-9644.
