Daily Five: Maine Earthquake Felt in Durham and Middlefield

Five things to know for Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

 

1. What's the Weather? Increasing clouds, with a high near 64. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

2. 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits New England The 4.0 magnitude earthquake, originally reported as a 4.6 magnitude quake but later downgraded, struck at 7:16 p.m. and was centered in southern Maine, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Suzanne Flynn Guy — yes, in Killingworth. The dogs went nuts and I thought a huge truck went down our dead end street.

Michael Meurs (of Durham) — I more heard it then felt it, but yes... The earth did shake.

Jeff Henry — Yes. Felt it in Middletown. Our dinner table moved back and forth.

3. DEEP to Repair Lake Beseck Dam At Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting, First Selectman Jon Brayshaw said his office had recently been informed by the DEEP that work will soon begin on reparing the Lake Beseck dam.

4. October DMYFS Fun Night and Dance for Memorial School students is this Friday - October 19th from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM!  

Click on this link to register online. Students registered online can be dropped off using our new Express Lane - parents will not have to leave their car (please see note below regarding carpools). Online Registration closes October 18th at 8 PM. 

DMYFS is in critical need of parent chaperones to allow the game room to be open. If you can chaperone, please indicate on the registration form.
