Daily Five: Late Night Crash, Senator to Visit School, Dog Bites Trooper Follow-Up

Five things to know for Wednesday, February 6, 2013.

 

1. What's the Weather? A chance of light snow, mainly before 7 a.m. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 41. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 15.

2. Crash Closes Road Middlefield firefighters and police responded to a roll-over crash along Strickland Road late Wednesday. It's unknown if any injuries resulted in the crash, which happened around 9 p.m, or if weather was a factor in the crash. The road near the entrance to Peckham Park was closed for more than an hour.

3. Senator to Visit Memorial School Sen. Dante Bartolomeo (D-13th) will meet with town and school officials on Monday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Middle School. Bartolomeo is a member of the Legislative Task Force School Safety subcommittee and will discuss safety and security issues facing District 13.

4. Dog Bites Trooper Follow-Up The Middletown Press is reporting that the dog involved in Tuesday's incident on Foot Hills Road in Durham has been placed under state mandatory 14-day quarantine. The dog, which belongs to a neighbor in the area where state police were investigating a burglary, bit a state police trooper in the leg. The trooper is okay but the report says the dog was not up-to-date on its rabies vaccine and the owner could face a fine.

5. Valentines for Veterans The Wadsworth Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is scheduled to make Valentines for area veterans on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany. Bring your creativity and craft supplies to share. All are welcome. Those who prefer to make Valentines at home to donate may contact Judy Moeckel at wadsworthdar1@gmail.com.
