Daily Five: Hennick Reelected to Region 13 Board of Education

Five things to know for Wednesday, May 16, 2012

 

1. What's the Weather: Expect more of the same, on and off showers according to the National Weather Service, with a high near 77. Tonight: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m., with a low around 52.

2. BOE Chairman Reelected: Durham resident Thomas Hennick, who has served on the Region 13 Board of Education for more than a decade, including five years as chairman, was relected to the board Monday night. Hennick defeated Dr. Joseph Forester by a 47-23 vote. Hennick's term is up again in 2015.

3. DMIAAB Board Members Relected: On Monday, voters in Durham and Middlefield also reelected four members to the Durham Middlefield Interlocal Agreement Advisory Board. Dominic DelVecchio and Ronald Capozzi will represent Durham during another two-year term, while Katie Hughes and Frank Petrella were voted in in Middlefield again.

4. $50,000 Up For Grabs: Durham resident Marilyn Horn is hoping to win , a non-profit group that she's been a part of for more than a decade. You can help by voting for the group's video which has been entered to win a grant offered by Cultivate Wines. So far the group is in 3rd place, but they need your vote now and often!

5. This Day in History: On May 16, 1929, the first Academy Awards were handed out in Hollywood, Calif. Wings, a silent film about World War I pilots, won Best Picture. The cost of a guest ticket for the ceremony? $5.
