1. Weather: According to our friends at the National Weather Service, today will be sunny, with a high near 76 with a north wind between 11 and 15 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. North wind around 11 mph.
2. Marathon Men: Congratulations to Thomas Desmarias, 25, of Middlefield and Chris Schulten, 40, of Middlefield for finishing Monday's Boston Marathon . The pair was among the roughly 22,500 runners who took part in the 26.2 mile race. Desmarias finished with an official time of 3:03:43, while Schulten crossed the finish line in 3:21:38. The top finisher came in at 2:12:40, a relatively slower pace due to the day's heat. (Doesn't Chris look great in his Patch t-shirt!)
3. Safe Teen Driving Contest: Coginchaug students came up just short in the DMV's fourth annual safe teen driving contest. Students Grant Willis (director), Tommy Schock, Ryan Rausch and Kristofer Copeland produced a that was among the 10 finalists in the statewide contest. Coginchaug didn't walk away empty handed. The school is one of only two schools in the state to have finished in the top 10 all four years of the contest. As a result, teacher Robin Fox was given the St. Francis Care Award and $500 towards continuing the program.
4: New Guard Rails: Starting today, the town of Killingworth will begin replacing guard rails on Lower . "Please drive cautiously and be prepared for one-lane traffic at times."
5. Tax Day: Today is the last day to file your taxes (without asking for an extension, of course.) Taxpayers were given an additional two days because the 15th fell on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day - a legal holiday in Washington D.C. - was observed Monday. All local post offices are open until 5 p.m.
