Daily Five: Another Random Act of Kindness in Durham

Five things to know for Friday, February 22, 2013.

 

1. What's the Weather? Increasing clouds, with a high near 39. Tonight: A slight chance of snow and freezing rain after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 26.

2. Random Acts of Kindness Just a week after someone left about 600 origami flowers on lockers throughout Coginchaug High School, another Random Act of Kindness was discovered Thursday at the Durham Public Library.

Several envelopes — including one that said "Here's some cash for a cup of tea or some other treat. Enjoy and pass it on!" — were found stuffed in the library's bookshelves.

3. Have You Seen Penny? On Thursday, Patch was alerted to a missing dog named Penny. She was last seen Thursday morning around 10 a.m. at the New Haven Raccoon Club in Durham. Penny is a mutt, mostly black with brown/black brindle on her legs and face.  One of her ears stands up, the other flops down. If you've spotted her please call 860-349-1537 or 860-601-0136.

4. IWWA to Vote on Powder Ridge Pond Application Following a lengthy public hearing on Wednesday night, Middlefield's Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency is scheduled to vote tonight on an application from Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort to dredge the pond at the ski area to increase snowmaking capabilities. The special meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Community Center.

5. Prepare your Garden for Spring  Is your garden ready for spring? Learn how to prepare your beds after this hard winter at the Durham Public Library on March 9, when members of the Durham Garden Club will serve as teachers during the March meeting of the Wadsworth Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
