Daily Five: Passport Day, Custody Rights and $$$ for Local Schools

Five things to know for Monday, March 4, 2013.

2. Passport Day The Town of Durham is hosting a special passport event on Saturday, March 9, from ­10-3 p.m. to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.

U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.  

Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778. Before attending, please be sure to review the type of documentation needed and other requirements in order to avoid delays.

3. Durham Senator Fights for Custody Rights State Sen. Len Fasano (R-34th) has proposed a bill to "establish a presumption of shared custody in a dispute involving the custody of a minor child."

Fasano, who joined advocates for change in custody laws over the weekend in Wallingford to rally in support of S.B. 77, said he expects a public hearing on the proposal to be held this month.

4. Can U Sing? After The Storm, a local charity that helps provide support for cancer survivors, is holding auditions this month for its Can U Sing event. Details can be found here.
