Daily Five: Students Raise Money, Halloween Costume Contest and Longtime Librarian Remembered

Five things to know for Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012.

 

1. What's the Weather? Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Tonight: A chance of showers after 2 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 54.

2. Walk Like MADD Members of EDGE (Excellent Decisions Guiding Everyday) participated in last weekend's Walk Like MADD event held in downtown Branford.  The event supported MADD and EDGE Teams from Coginchaug High School and Strong Middle School raised almost $500 to support the cause.

In 2012, in almost 40 cities around the nation, thousands of people will participate in 5K walks to celebrate creating a brighter future without drunk driving and underage drinking.

The group walked with parents, siblings and EDGE Advisors Jane Moen (DMYFS) and Becca Anderson (CRHS).

3. Solarize Durham Update Another workshop is planned for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Durham Public Library. Join your neighbors and other Durham residents at Solarize Durham’s Solar Workshop to learn how the Solarize model offers high performance, low cost solar installations to Connecticut residents.

In addition to learning about the Solarize Connecticut program, the solar workshop on October 24 will walk homeowners through the basics of solar power, including everything from the technology itself to the various financing options. Residents interested in learning more about solar technology will find the workshop interesting and informative.
