Five things to know for Thursday, March 7, 2013.

1. What's the Weather? A mix of snow and rain, with snow likely after noon. High near 37. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Tonight: Snow. Low around 29. North wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

2. Snow Removal Bill How much did it cost to remove the snow from last month's record breaking blizzard at schools in Durham and Middlefield? $51,238, according to District 13 Business Manager Ron Melnik. The figure only includes contracted services, so the actual exact cost would be even higher. The snowstorm covered Durham and Middlefield in more than three feet of snow and schools were closed for three days. The single storm accounted for the district's entire snow removal budget, plus about $20,000 extra.

3. Durham Stage Actor in Grease Mercy High School student Madison Marone of Durham will play the role of Marty in the upcoming presentation of Grease on March 8-10. The show is a collaboration between Mercy and Xavier High School. Here's a preview of the show.

4. Trivia Bee The Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation will host it's Trivia Bee on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Strong School Gym. The event is OPEN to the public and admission is FREE. There's even some buzz around town that yours truly will be there to answer some questions.

5. Get Hypnotized For Project Graduation Hypnotist Dan La Roas will return to Coginchaug High School for an evening of fun on Friday, March 22. Tickets are $10 at the door and proceeds will benefit Project Graduation!
