Can You Identify This Building?

This local landmark is long abandoned and surrounded by forest, but where and what is it?

Is this in Middlefield near the Blackbird Tavern?

I'm going to guess it's somewhere on the old Happy Acres property.

You could solve this very easily by asking the photographer :)

Christine's comment made me smile.

So who is the photographer? I think its out towards higganum... In the woods. Idk do tell the suspense is killing me.

If I included the photographer's name it might make it easier to identify because that person is linked to the town where the building is found. I will say this, the guessers are cold.

is it an abandoned cottage near Lake Beseck?
Concerned February 23, 2012 at 12:29 PM
I think it is the old rifle range, near West St & Orchard Lane - going up towards the Lymans Cold Storage building.

could it be one of the old, abandoned textile mills on the river that flows from Wadsworth falls? it looks like one of the buildings tucked back near the falls...

Good guess Christine, but the building is NOT located in Middlefield (or Rockfall). That leaves two towns....

Fosters Pond now part of Chatfield Hollow south of rte 80 Killingworth state of Ct

You're right Eric! According to local historian Thomas Lentz this is a sawmill. It is the only standing sawmill in the Town of Killingworth. It is located on State property in Chatfield Hollow. It was probably built around 1900 on the site of an earlier mill and operated until around 1950. Water was supplied from a mill pond. Thanks everybody for taking a guess. We'll have another photo up next week! If you think you can stump everyone we encourage you to submit a local photo with a few details to michael.hayes@patch.com!
