Children's Programs at the Durham Library Begin January 6th

Drop-In Preschool Programs (no registration required)

Storytime books and activities are designed for the age group stated, but siblings are always welcome!

Bouncing Babies! (birth to crawlers). Mondays, Jan. 6 to April 14 at 11:00 a.m. Babies and caregivers enjoy nursery rhymes, songs, and movement activities together.

Mother Goose Storytime (walkers to 30 months). Mondays, Jan. 6 to April 14 at 10:15 a.m. This program features simple stories, rhymes, fingerplays, and activities for toddlers and their parents or caregivers.

Time for Tots (2 ½ to 3 ½ years). Wednesdays, Jan. 8 to April 16 at 10:15 a.m. Stories, songs and fingerplays to encourage a love of books and early language development. Program will include a simple craft activity.

Bedtime Storytime (ages 2-5) Mondays, Jan. 6 to April 14 at 6:30 p.m. This program features bedtime stories, gentle music, and sing-along time. Wear your PJs!

Preschool Storytime (3 ½ to 5 years). Tuesdays, Jan. 7 to April 15 at 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Stories, songs and craft program designed for preschool-aged children. Children will make their own craft to take home.

Drop-in Elementary Programs (no registration required)

Story Magic! (Grades K-2). Saturdays, Jan. 11 to April 19 at 10:30 a.m. Games, songs, stories, and activities for children aged 5 to 7. (No program on February 1).

Games, Games, Games! (Grades 3 to 5). Third Thursdays of the month, Jan. 16 to April 17 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. We’ll be gaming old-school style! Bring some friends and test your skills at Apples to Apples, Sorry, Scrabble Jr., and other fun games.

LEGO® Club (ages 6-12), Second Thursdays of the month (1/9, 2/13, 3/20, 4/10) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. LEGO® blocks provided, just bring your creativity! (LEGO®is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this program.)

Special Programs and Events (Registration required — Please register at the circulation desk or by calling 860-349-9544)

Kids in the Kitchen (ages 8-11). Four Wednesdays: January 15 & 29; February 5 & 12 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Observe, learn, try, saute, boil, bake, mix, fry taste, enjoy!

Lunch Bunch Book Discussions (Grades 4-6). Four Saturdays, 12:30 p.m. Bring your lunch, dessert provided. Books to be discussed are: January 18 - How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O’Connor; February 15 – Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos; March 15 – Chomp by Carl Hiaasen; and April 26 – Schooled by Gordon Korman. Copies of the books will be available at the circulation desk.

Nutmeg at Night Gameshow (Grades 4-6). Thursday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. Just how well do you know this year’s Nutmeg nominees?Form a team with your friends to answer trivia questions about all ten books.  Audience members can act as ‘life lines!’ Bring the whole family!
