Registration is Open for Children's Programs at the Durham Public Library!

The New Year will be here before you know it and with it a lot of fun activities for kids at the Durham Public Library. Check out the following activities:

Nutmeg at Night Gameshow!

Wednesday, January 9 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. (Gr. 4—6) & 7:30-8:30 (Gr. 7 and up)

You’ve read the books – now show off your literary knowledge about this years’ Nutmeg Award Nominees. Why did Hansel and Gretel run away? What happens in Mr. Terupt’s classroom? And does Josh have what it takes to be Baseball Great?

Form a team with your friends to answer trivia questions about all ten books.

One Book One Community

Adults in Durham and Middlefield will be reading Empire Falls by Richard Russo, but kids can join the One Book fun by reading The Universe of Fair by Leslie Bulion and participating in the following activities.

Author Visit and Book Signing (Ages 6 and up)                                 

Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m.                                 

Meet local author Leslie Bulion as she reads from her new novel The Universe of Fair. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Creative Writing Workshop (Ages 10—14)                                     

Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.                                     

Leslie Bulion, author of The Universe of Fair, will lead a workshop to help children get their creative juices flowing.

Ongoing Programs for School-aged Children

Series-ous Fun! Book Discussion (Grades 1 to 3)                                                              Saturdays – Feb. 9, Mar. 9, & Apr. 6 from 2:00 -- 2:45 p.m.
Book discussion focusing on chapter book series. Refreshments provided.
Our first book will be Commander Toad in Space by Jane Yolen

Lunch Bunch Book Discussion (Grades 4 to 6)
Saturdays – Jan. 9, Feb. 16, Mar. 16 & Apr. 6 from 12:30 -- 1:30 p.m.
Bring your lunch; dessert provided.
Our first book will be The Story of Cirrus Flux by Matthew Skelton


LEGO Club (6 to 12 years)
Thursdays -- Jan. 17, Feb. 14, Mar. 14, Apr. 11, and May 9 from 6:30 -- 7:30 p.m. LEGOs provided, just bring your creativity!
