D Squad “Mighty Mites” Rematch HK Cougars

The Durham/Middlefield Falcons Mighty Mites took on the Haddam/Killingworth Cougars on Sunday, September 15 at the Coginchaug High School field.  The two teams are familiar with each other as they faced each other in 2 of the last three games and also scrimmaged twice in the preseason.  The Falcon faithful were out in full force on a perfect day for football. 

The game go off to a slow start as each team was feeling each other out.  The Cougars struck first on a long touchdown run and took a 6-0 lead.   The mighty Falcons defense was led by Ben Pitruzzello, Blake Santor, Anthony DeMartino, Ryan Wirger, Kevin Lee, Drue Fleck, John Legge, Tyler Doyle and Matthew Bradanini.

The Falcon offense ran a combination of passing and running plays.   The offense was led by by John Palo, Jake Manning, Ryan Grant, Donovan Vumback, Mark Melillo and Justin Garretson.  The Falcon offense had a few scoring opportunities in the second half but was never quite able to put the ball in the end zone.  The final score was HK 12-0.
