One of the things I look at when I am decorating are the existing shapes in the room! These play an important role in design. Check out the shapes in the picture above (New England Home Magazine). What architectural shape is prominent? Of course, the curved wall of windows!
This room looks so inviting - why? They have re-used the curve throughout the design. I love the round "barrel" back chairs - perfect! You will also note the curve of the sofa and coffee table. However, note how the accent pillows and chair cushions are square! This keeps the curve dominant in the design but adds interest through the square accents! Could you imagine if someone had put all linear furniture in here? The results would have lacked harmony!
