Spin for Hope @ Core Club & Gym

Spin for Hope across New England

On Sunday, March 4 the American Cancer Society will host Spin for Hope™ - a three-hour indoor cycling event that will take place simultaneously at participating health clubs around New England.  Locally, the event will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Core Club on 350 Main Street in Durham.

While it has long been an accepted fact that physical activity reduces one’s risk of heart disease, it’s still news that physical activity can also reduce the risk of cancer.  Spin for Hope is an exciting way to support the American Cancer Society in their mission to save lives and create more birthdays through fun and fitness.

Registration fee is $25. Participants can register as an individual and cycle for the entire three hours, or form a team of two or more people and take turns cycling.

Individuals spinning for the full three hours are encouraged to raise a minimum of $300. Participants sharing a bike are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 each. You can also support the event by donating to your favorite cyclist or team, volunteering your service on the day of or prior to the event, or by becoming an event sponsor.

“Maintaining a healthy weight is important to reduce cancer risk. By eating a well balanced diet and participating in at least 30 minutes of physical activity for 5 or more days a week, people can reduce their risk of cancer,” explains Holly Maki,

says Maki.

In 2011, forty-eight health clubs around New England participated in Spin for Hope and raised more than $334,000 to support the American Cancer Society in their mission to save lives and create more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.  For more information or to register call toll-free 1-800-227-2345 or visit spinforhope.org.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures
through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by
rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day
or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
