The Conversation Continues

Community Conversations about Education are an opportunity for open, respectful, serious discussion with a diverse group of community members interested in the future of our schools and our children.

The communities of Haddam and Killingworth have been awarded an "alumni grant" from the William T. Graustein Memorial Fund to build upon the momentum that began last April in our first Community Conversation about the purpose of public education. The 2012 conversation will take place on Saturday, June 2nd, and will focus on one of the resounding themes that came out of last year's meeting: The Role of the Parent and the Community in Our Children's Education. This year's conversation is cosponsored by RSD 17 and will focus on bringing together educators, administrators, students, parents, and other community members to explore this important topic. We hope it will lead to specific recommendations for ways to expand parent and community involvement with the education of our children.

Please join us on Saturday, June 2nd, at HK Middle School, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Whether or not you participated in last year's stimulating event, we hope you can make it this time. Child care/entertainment is available, and refreshments will be provided.

For more information, to RSVP, or to volunteer to help with planning, please contact Killingworth First Selectwoman Cathy Iino at 860-663-1765. Also look for us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HKCCAE.
