August is National Peach Month and in honor of the famously fuzzy fruit Lyman Orchards will host the 12th annual Peach Fest today.
Tree ripened yellow flesh and white flesh peach varieties are now in season at the orchards in Middlefield. While yellow and white peaches are both revered for their sweet flavor, fans of white peaches claim the fruit’s lower acid level lends an extra burst of sweetness. All varieties currently available are freestone. Because their flesh easily separates from the stone, freestone peaches are preferred for canning, freezing, and making jam.
Peach Fest activities will include peach picking in the orchards and live music featuring renowned Nashville recording artist Nicole Frechette of Madison on the Apple Barrel Deck from 1 to 3 p.m.
While you're at Lyman’s, enjoy free food samples from the Bakery, test your navigation skills in the Pirate Ship Sunflower Maze, enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, and pony rides and free face-painting for children. Free raffles and prizes too.
