Report: Researchers Predict End of Connecticut's Ski Areas

Canadian researchers tell the Hartford Courant that rising temperatures are likely to make it impossible for ski areas to sustain profitability.

 

Last summer, a group of investors came together to purchase Powder Ridge ski area.

If everything goes according to plan, skiers will be back on the slopes in Middlefield by next winter.

But a report in today's Hartford Courant suggests that the state's ski industry could disappear all together as a result of warming temperatures.

Sean Hayes of Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort has indicated that the ski area and winter sports park will no longer rely entirely on mother nature and that "artificial" snow could be used in the future.
