Sweet Cravings! Kim's Cottage Confections Hosts Open House This Weekend

Visitors can stop by the store at 16 Main Street on Saturday and Sunday to sample all that KCC has to offer, including holiday cakes and treats.

If trick-or-treaters indulged in all of your candy this week there's an opportunity to satisfy your sweet tooth in Durham this weekend.

Kim's Cottage Confections, now located on the main level of 16 Main Street, is holding a Grand Re-Opening and Open House on Saturday (from 9-3 p.m.) and Sunday (from 9-12 p.m.).

Owner Kim Terrill, a professional baker and cake designer for nearly two decades, says visitors will be able to sample all of KCC's delectable cakes, cookies and candies, as well as have a chance to learn from KCC's staff.

"We're going to be having cookie decorating demonstrations. We will show people how to decorate cookies, how to personalize them, how to make them fun," Terrill says.

Known for its wedding cakes and specialty treats, KCC also offers seasonal cakes and desserts which make a great addition to any holiday party or family gathering

"We do a lot of Thanksgiving desserts, like cookie trays. We do carrot cake. Saturday we're featuring our apple sauce spice cake which is a great Thanksgiving, Fall kind of spice cake," says Terrill.

The event will also feature hourly raffle giveaways.

And while they won't guarantee a win on election day, visitors may also want to pick up one of KCC's politically-themed lolipops — a choice between a berry-flavored blue donkey or red elephant.

"We thought it would be fun," says Terrill.

KCC moved to its new location in April but Terrill said wedding season has kept her and her staff busy, preventing the store from holding a grand re-opening.

Until now.

"It's a relief, because a lot of people ask, 'How's the new shop?'"
