G-Zen Named Best Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant by Connecticut Magazine

Branford eatery is owned by Durham residents Mark and Ami Shadle.

Durham restauranteurs Mark Shadle and his wife, Ami Beach-Shadle have earned yet another accolade for their unique approach to food.

G-Zen, the couple's vegan restaurant in Branford, was named one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants in all of Connecticut in the February edition of Connecticut Magazine.

"You'll forget you're not eating any meat--or dairy--when you taste the vegan specialties coming out of Mark Shadle's kitchen. The black bean veggie burger is a must, with sweet potato fries and housemade hickory ketchup," a review in the magazine says.

The magazine surveyed nearly 90 "dining-out experts" in 26 categories ranging from best cocktail to best outdoor dining to best value.

Last summer, G-Zen was named by Shape Magazine as one of the nation's best vegan restaurants.

The couple recently began serving brunch on Saturday's at G-Zen.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
