Owner Matt Lockwood said Wednesday that the business had been sold to the owner of several successful local Chinese restaurants.

"When I opened up this place two years ago I said to myself, 'Let me try to go in and make a difference in Durham and if I get the business up and going, I'm going to sell,'" Lockwood said.

Lockwood said the decision to sell was both a difficult and emotional one because of the customers who supported him.

"I'm not closing due to lack of business. I want to say thank you to all the patrons that supported my family."

While Lockwood admitted that last year's storms were difficult on the business financially he said selling the property will allow him to spend more time with his family, including helping his wife who owns and operates Jerry's Pizza in Middletown.

"I'm going to do a bar down there. A sports bar," Lockwood said.

Customers who may have purchased gift certificates to Durham's Kitchen can redeem them at the pizzeria located at 635 South Main Street.

"I had fun. It's sad."
