How Does an Upscale Day Spa in Durham Sound? [Poll]

The Planning and Zoning Commission is reviewing the town's regulations to determine whether empty office space on Main Street can be turned into a spa.

In the 1700s, it was a tavern. Then, it became someone's home. And soon, 199 Main Street in Durham could be turned into an upscale day spa and salon.

You may have noticed that the property recently underwent extensive exterior rennovations and according to the minutes of the June 6 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Durham Manufacturing (which owns the building) was recently approached by someone interested in renting the property and turning it into a spa.

Attorney John Corona told commission members that a formal application could be submitted as early as next month.

Meanwhile, the PZC is reviewing the town's regulations to determine whether the empty office space can accomodate such a business.

What do you think?

What other health businesses will be there. Durham certainly can benefit along with surrounding towns.

As my wife and I would probably never use this - Just not our thing (But you never know) I encourage and welcome any business in Durham to take root in our town. I just hope someday we get a viable Food Market so we don’t have to travel to North Haven and Middletown. Something similar to Northford Country Market would be nice as we are doing some of our shopping there now. The soon to be cleaned-up superfund site on Main Street would be an deal spot.

I hope the Town of Durham buys the Super Fund Site and puts the Community Center there.
