A History of Powder Ridge

The Middlefield ski resort opened this past weekend after a seven-year hiatus.

Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort is back in business.

The Middlefield ski mountain held a dedication ceremony this past Friday, opening its doors for the first time since 2007, when its previous owner filed for bankruptcy.

The town purchased the property for $2.55 million following a 2008 referendum and then sold it to the owner of Portland-based Brownstone Discovery Park, Sean Hayes.

So, that's an abbreviated version of the most recent history. But what about the 53 years preceding all of this?

As part of a feature story in its December issue, Connecticut Magazine has published a whole timeline chronicling the history of the ski mountain going back to its founding in 1959.

CT Magazine has also published a lengthy article on Powder Ridge, which you can view here.
