7:30 a.m. Update: Route 68 In Durham Reopens After Crash

Route 68 in Durham is open in both directions following Monday's crash of a tractor trailer. Power was restored to 63 Connecticut Light and Power customers late Monday.

9:30 p.m. Update

Route 68 in Durham is expected to be open for the busy rush hour commute Tuesday morning and power should be restored by midnight to more than 60 customers left in the dark after a tractor trailer crashed into a utility poll Monday afternoon, officials said late Monday.

A stretch of the road from Pent Road to Route 157 was closed around 1:30 p.m., within minutes after the crash, and remained closed as of 9:30 p.m.

The driver was not injured. By late Monday crews had removed the semi truck from the scene but Connecticut Light and Power crews remained on scene to repair the utility pole and utilities, according to Francis Willett, Durham's Emergency Management Director.

He said he expected crews to have the power turned back on within two hours. The state Department of Transportation is expected to return sometime this week to fix a damaged guardrail.

A tractor trailer crash on Route 68 in Durham has shut down the highway between Route 157 and Tuttle Road.

The crash happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday, just east of the intersection of Route 68 and Route 157, near United Concrete. Vehicles coming from Interstate 91 in Wallingford are being detoured to Route 157.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.

The tractor trailer collided with a utility pole and Connecticut Light and Power crews have arrived on scene and shut off power in the area. According to CL&P's outage map, 63 customers were without power as of 3 p.m.
