What's On Tonight

Sunday Dec. 12

The Amazing Race 17, 8 p.m., CBS

You know, there's making history, and then there's making history. Like, for example, Sally Ride. She made history. Margaret Thatcher. Geraldine Ferraro. Hard to – in all seriousness – add the MelonHeads or The Docs to that Hall of Fame. So we won't. But we will say – in all seriousness – that in tonight's finale of the 17th season of the Amazing Race, there is a giant chance that an all-female team will win (a two out of three chance, in fact) and if it happens, in our little world, history will be made.

Season finale already! Seems like just yesterday Dexter was on his front lawn, soaked in Rita's blood, saying "It was me." So Jordan has killed poor Emily and has Lumen in his clutches, the icky cop is dead, Quinn has blood on his shoes (I'm guessing ol' Quinn is going to take the fall for that one), Battista is still sleeping on the couch and Dexter has not ordered the magician for Harrison's first birthday. We have got quite a list of things to take care of here, kids. Whew.

I quit this show halfway through season 2 when it became apparent they could not sustain the brilliance of the premiere season's first three episodes. But it certainly has lots of fans out there, and tonight is the first of the new episodes: "The team takes over a mall on Christmas Eve and uncovers a scheme perpetrated by an old nemesis; Eliot goes undercover as Santa Claus; Parker and Hardison are Santa's helpers." So, Merry Christmas.
