In March, Memorial Middle School teacher Jessica Biancardi introduced a persuasive writing class to her 5th and 6th grade students inspired by her favorite band, O.A.R. (Of a Revolution).
She was able to integrate the band's music into the curriculum and subjects taught throughout the day.
"The students then wrote their first persuasive essays in the form of a letter to the band," she said. "The band loved it so much they invited all the students, with one parent each, to their concert as their special guests for free."
On August 2, O.A.R. played in front of thousands of fans at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, incuding the students and their parents seated in the front row.
Biancardi's class also got to meet the band and received autographed cards.
Two students, Nikki Ahern and Aubrey Figoras, wrote about the experience (See the attached PDFs).
Biancardi's class was also mentioned in a recent article in the Hartford Courant.
