Mr Gillette had many interests and eccentricities. The castle, the train, the boats, etc... another little known fact was his love for obscure motorcycles. For awhile he owned a Neracar... a strange, but well engineered motorcycle manufactured in the 20's. This motorcycle had several unique features...center hub steering, friction drive and a step through design. He was often seen driving this around the castle grounds and in East Haddam. Now, thanks to an arrangement between the State DEEP and David Perillo of Killingworth a Neracar will be on display for the 2012 season. While not the very one owned by Mr Gillette, it is a good example. It is in the Exhibition Room of the Visitors Center and can be viewed at no charge. The castle tours are available for a small fee.
