Photos: Durham Pays Tribute to Veterans

The town's Veterans Day service was held Sunday morning at the veterans' memorial.

A crowd of about 150 residents gathered on Durham's town green Sunday morning to honor veterans.

The Veterans Day service included several brief memorial tributes as well as a reading of the origins of Veteran's Day. First Selectman Laura Francis read The Nobel and the Brave, a poem about veterans written by Joanna Fuchs.

The town's flag was lowered to half-staff during the ceremony by Bob Peterson, a retired member of the U.S. Marine Corps and current member of Durham VFW Post 10169.
