What Does Memorial Day Mean to You?

Patch invites you to share your thoughts or upload your Memorial Day photos.

One photograph I captured today managed to remind me of the true meaning of Memorial Day: a banner, carried by a local Boy Scouts troop, with the names of 64 men and women from Connecticut killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

As we mark Memorial Day, let's not forget these courageous men and women, or any others that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Let us also remember the brave men and women who are still fighting for our freedom.

I think the banner carried by the local Boy Scouts says it all. This day is about remembering the sacrifices made by our men and women in the armed forces, not about picnics, great sales in a store, or throwing candy at a parade.
