Community Corner

On a Mission For Lifelong Learning

Tonight's episode of Destination Durham features members of the Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation

The latest episode of Destination Durham, (which airs today on channel 19 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.) takes a look at one of our community organizations, the Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation (CVEF).

You may be familiar with CVEF through the organization’s annual spelling bee, held at Coginchaug High School. The Spelling Bee attracts swarms of local residents, organizations, RSD13 teachers and government officials, who dress in themed outfits and challenge their minds by spelling extraordinary words. Our Destination crew went to the 2012 Spelling Bee and here is what we captured http://youtu.be/RXGxJgJdSSY.

The spelling bee is only the tip of the iceberg for CVEF. Founded in 2008 the mission of CVEF “is to promote excellence, innovation and creativity in education for the community and to support life-long learning in Durham and Middlefield.”

In 2011 seven local organizations were able to benefit from grant monies the foundation makes available to those that share in the CVEF vision of learning and innovation.

In tonight’s episode, Destination Durham speaks with President Renee Edwards and members Gary Johnson and Nancy Earls on how CVEF engages the community to pursue the goal of life-long learning.

Destination Durham airs every Tuesday at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Comcast channel 19.
