LEGO Build Inspired by Wind Farm Project Off Block Island

Families come together to create replica windmills made out of LEGOs during event in Middlefield.

On March 3, more than 100 LEGO enthusiasts gathered at the Middlefield Community Center for the Durham Middlefield Youth and Family Services' Family Windmill Build.

The two-hour family building program was designed and led by architech Stephen W. Schwartz, of Building Blocks Workshops LLC.

Participants were asked to build windmills that were then placed on a map of Block Island, where a real-life wind farm project is currently underway.

"It was an awesome afternoon of building, bonding, laughing and creating with moms, dads, kids, teens, neighbors, friends and even grandmas and grandpas," said Jane Moen, program director at DMYFS. "This is sure to be an annual event!"
