In Case You Missed It: Lyman's Getting Ready for Brood II

Billed as harmless to humans the nasty-looking bugs are about to explode into our world by the millions. And local farmers say they could harm crops.

With the once-every-17-years emergence of the cicadas just weeks away, area farms are bracing for the impact on their crops.

In an interview with Fox CT, John Lyman of Lyman Farms in Middlefield detailed how the swarm of cicadas could cause damage to the apple trees on his farm.

“They would slit into the young branches and that would eventually, they would snap off, they would die because of that incision,” Lyman told the news station in a video interview.

According to Fox, the cicadas are supposed to be the worst in the central part of Connecticut, where Lyman and other area farms are located.

Experts are saying the bugs will cause damage to crops and plants, however it should be “over before you know it.”

And some are saying they can double as a healthy snack.
