Middlesex Area Patient Services will host its 2nd Annual Wheel-a-thon, Walk-a-thon at Xavier High School on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 9:30-2 p.m.
The MAPS Wheel-a-thon/Walk-a-thon will be like a conventional Walk-a-Thon, but offers an interesting twist. It will be held at Xavier'sl 1/4 mile track behind the school and they encourage both walking and wheelchair bound people to cover a 1/4 mile or more, on the track, for the benefit of their MS members. There will be a wheelchair available if you would like to experience what being in a chair is like. You may also have the opportunity to push one of our member/patients around.
MAPS is a non-profit agency devoted to assisting patients with MS with expenses not covered by insurance or Medi-Care. The MAPS board are all unpaid volunteers and 100% of the money donated will go to the member/patients.
Founded in 1973, MAPS provides money for items such as non-covered medication expense, wheelchair ramps, electric wheelchair batteries and automobile accessories, all of which make it possible for patients to continue in a more active lifestyle.
If you would like to help out, drive into the back of Xavier High School and look for the registration tent. Sign up friends and relatives to sponsor a lap, or just take a slow stroll around a beautiful track on a Sunday. No donation is too small. Won't you help us brighten someone's day with fighting this debilitating and as yet incurable disease?
