H-K Rec Director 'One of Best' In New England

In 1998, Robyne created "Curious Campers", a pre-school camp program and it is still going strong 12 years later, landing her top recognition.

Robyne Brennan, CPRP (Certified Park and Recreation Professional), of the Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department has been recognized by the New England Region, National Recreation and Parks Association, as one of the top directors in the country. The organization annually recognizes professionals, citizens and organizations in the region that have rendered outstanding service to the recreation, park and conservation movement.

Robyne has been the Assistant Director of Recreation at the Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department since 1994. Her job is fast paced, and she spends many hours a week coordinating dozens of programs to benefit children and adults in the community. In addition to sports programs, bus trips, performing arts and other programs, Robyne looks for creative ways to meet needs.

Robyne received the Joseph Trapasso Programmers Award which is presented to members that have demonstrated a minimum of three years experience in a position where the primary responsibility is in programming, and have introduced new or innovative programs.

Curious Campers is a camp for four and five year olds, boys and girls, and is held during the month of July every summer. There is a different theme every week, includng Pirates and Treasure, Under the Sea, In the Garden, Dazzling Disney Week and Wild Wild West. Activities include themed art projects, outside play including sprinkler time, stories, free time, and more. It also helps prepare children for kindergarten, as it is a weekly session that meets Monday thru Friday.

With Robyne paving the way, the program has served over 750 children over the past 12 years. There is one Head Teacher and student volunteers as helpers. The student volunteers are able to get community service hours that they can use towards their High School graduation requirements.
