10 Best Holiday Events & Performances

10 Events you won't want to miss!

     This holiday season the communities' of Durham, Middlefield and Killingworth have a variety of holiday events for you and your family to enjoy. Here's our list:

1) Dec. 14 - Strong School Choral Concert

Location: 191 Main St., Durham

Time: 7 p.m.

     The seventh and eighth grade Strong School Choral students have been hard at work preparing for their yearly winter concert.

2) Dec. 14 - Holiday Day Gathering

Location: Durham Activity Center, 350 Main St., Durham

Time: 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

     The Holiday Day Gathering is open to the entire community. They will have holiday movies playing, as well as live music. Please bring a favorite dish to share and something for the food pantry (canned goods).

3) Dec. 15 – H-K Middle School Chorus Concert

Location: 451 Route 81, Killingworth

Time: 7 p.m.

     The students at H-K Middle School are eager to have you listen to their joyful chorus concert.

4) Dec. 16 – Brewster Elementary Winter Celebration

Location: 126 Tuttle Rd., Durham

Time: 10:30 am, 1 p.m., 2 p.m.

     The elementary school children at Brewster School have been very busy preparing for their yearly Winter Celebration. The kindergarten and pre-school student's concert is at 10:30 am. The first grade student's concert is at 1 p.m. and the second grade student's concert is at 2 p.m..

5) Dec. 17 – The Hitchin' Post Tavern

Location: 980 New Haven Rd., Durham

Time: 9 p.m.

     Connecticut's own "Outside Chance Band" will be playing at The Hitchin' Post Tavern on Friday night, Dec. 17. This band plays classic rock tunes as well as current top hits. Stop by and enjoy good music and good food.

6) Dec. 19 – Family Holiday Brunch with Santa

Location: Lyman Homestead, 3 Lyman Rd., Middlefield

Time: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m.

     The Family Holiday Brunch with Santa at the Lyman Homestead requires advance reservations, but for anyone not attending the brunch, they are welcome to visit with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and enjoy the festive holiday decorations.

7) Dec. 19– CRHS Holiday Concert

Location: 135 Pickett Lane, Durham (Coginchaug HS auditorium)

Time: 2 p.m.

     Join the Coginchaug students for their yearly festive Holiday Concert entertainment in the Coginchaug auditorium.

8) Dec. 19 – Church of the Epiphany Community Supper

Location: 196 Main Street, Durham

Time: 5:30 pm

     This potluck dinner is open to the entire community. Bring a dish, enjoy good food and good neighbors. You might even see Santa there!

9) Dec. 21 – Killingworth Open Labyrinth Walk (Rediscover the Peace & Stillness of Christmas)

Location: Congregational Church of Killingworth, 273 Route 81, Killingworth

Time: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

     The Open Labyrinth Walk is open to the entire community (stop by any time between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.) The walk is a peaceful time to escape the stress and chaos that often comes around the holidays. This is a walking form of prayer. The Classical 7 circuit stone Labyrinth was created in 2004. Even if you've never walked an open Labyrinth before give it a try!

10) Jan. 2, 2011 – Notre Dame Parish Church

Location: 272 Main Street, Durham

Time: 10:30 am

     The morning mass will include The Children's Pageant and Celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord. A reception will follow directly after the Pageant and mass have ended down stairs in the church hall. Treats and goodies will be available.

    So mark your calendars, tell your friends and have a happy, festive and safe holiday season!
