B Squad wraps up pre-season with Salomone Cup

B Squad wraps up pre-season with Salomone Cup

The team was asked to keep “family” in their hearts this week as they prepared for both the final week of camp and the Salomone cup against the Haddam Killingworth Cougars. The captains for this past week of practice and games were Quinn Reardon, Colin Sheehy, Eric Pitruzzello, Bryce Fleck & Derek Grant. Captains were chosen by the coaching staff for merit based on previous week’s practice and effort during the Jamboree in South Windsor. In addition, the team selected two honorary captains who happened to be mothers to two Falcon team members.  April Davis and Krystyn Reardon Mazione  joined the team ahead of our scrimmage to give some words of encouragement as well as pick the 1st play on offense and defense.

The first half resulted in 4 Touchdowns for the Cougars and none for the Falcons. The Falcon offense had a hard time getting started with some early turnovers which had the Falcon defense on the field. The Falcon Defense was able to create 2 Turnovers of their own on pass interceptions from Anthony Santangelo during the half but the Falcon offense never quite got the rhythm it needed to complete a drive.

The second half proved to be much better for the Falcons defense only allowing one touchdown while the Falcon offense found a bit more consistency. Solid play from the defense during the second half led to quite a few holding and blocking penalties on the Cougars. Dante Aparo, Alex Case and Carter Proto were consistent with their keys and responsibilities during the 2nd half which created a lot of challenges for the Cougar offense.

As the game clock clicked down to zero we celebrate the Cougars victory and the true meaning of the Salomone Cup, which was the passion and memory of a great coach, family member and friend Dan Salomone.

The Falcon team worked hard during the month of August and have learned a lot about themselves and the game of football. The Falcons realize that “ Believe & Achieve” begins with “ME” works towards “WE” and plays together as “FALCONS”.

Thanks to Coach Paula Murphy and the Cheerleading squad who looked and sounded great! Stay tuned Falcon faithful as we face the Vipers from Vernon CT @ Coginchaug field this Sunday @ 9am.
