5 out of 14 Local Businesses Pass Alcohol Compliance Checks

Durham and Middlefield:  On July 11th the Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Control Division and Connecticut State Police, Troop F conducted undercover alcohol compliance checks at 14 bars, restaurants, package stores, and grocery stores.  Two volunteer minors, trained by The Governor’s Prevention Partnership, participated in the operation.

The Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition appreciates the efforts of all agencies involved and would like to thank the local businesses who refused the sale of alcohol to minors.  “Alcohol continues to be the #1 substance of abuse among youth in Durham and Middlefield,” said Stephanie Moran, Prevention Coordinator for DMLWC, “and I am happy that 5 businesses in our community did refuse alcohol sales to minors; but we still have work to do.”

This fall, DMLWC will be offering a second TIPS training for all servers and sellers of alcohol.  This training aims to ensure the responsible service, sale, and consumption of alcohol through teaching employees how to check ID’s and refuse sales to minors and over-intoxicated patrons.  All businesses with a liquor permit are invited and encouraged to attend.
