Two Hikers Fall from Beseck Mountain-Middlefield

Crews were on scene into early morning hours after rescuing two hikers who fell 50 and 150 ft feet from Beseck Mountain in Middlefield on Friday evening.

Two hikers, a female and a male said to be in their 20's fell 50 and 100 feet from Beseck Mountain in Middlefield on Friday evening.

EMS and fire crews from Middlefield, Durham and Middletown responded to the scene sometime after 9 p.m. to search for the two victims. Two Life Star helicopters were standing by in the parking lot of Perotti's Country Barn.

A Technical Rescue Team from the Middletown Fire Dept. was called in for a high angle rope rescue that took crews until approximately 1 a.m. Saturday morning to bring the first victim to safety.  The patient was then airlifted to Hartford Hospital via Life Star.  The second patient was brought to the top of the mountain at approximately 3:40 a.m. and transported via Life Star.

The extent of injuries are unknown, but both parties were reported to be in stable condition.

I went up there in my early 20's drunk as a skunk, and accompanied by several people in the same state of inebriation. We got there and said, "Yeah, this not a good idea." So we sat for a few minutes, drank some beers and left. I'll admit, we were stupid and most likely a danger on the road, but we had enough sense even in our drunken state to appreciate and respect the fact that we should go no further.

Just to be clear, at least in this case alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Not sure selling it off is in the best interest of the town. I am still stumped how we could sellRead More the ridge for what we did. Was it in our best interest to not have zero debt for the ridge after we sold it? Just saying why not rent the property. That would be a win, win situation the person who wants to use it could and we would still maintain ownership.
