Sailor With Local Ties to Appear on NFL Playoff Game
Luke and Debra Backus say their nephew is scheduled to appear on a video greeting during Sunday's game between the Giants and 49ers.
HN Andrew Backus of the U.S. Navy 2nd Marine Division is currently serving in Afghanistan where the Putnam Valley, NY native will be cheering on the New York Giants this weekend when they play the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.
Andrew, who was deployed in December, is the nephew of Luke and Debra Backus of Durham.
"We are proud of him and we are very worried," the couple says.
On Sunday, Andrew will appear in a brief video greeting during the game between the Giants and 49ers. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on FOX.

I believe he is a Sailor not a Soldier. The Marines us Navy corpmen. And even if he was not a corpmen he would be a Marine not a Soldier

Jimbo You're absolutely correct, thanks for the clarification. I've changed the headline to reflect that.

Thanks for the comment Yutt. Hopefully I'll get to sit down with Andrew upon his safe return and write about his service. His family was gracious enough to send me some information with the photo that you see.
