Police: Drunk Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Yard
Arthur Miller, 21, of Middlefield crashed his car along Powder Hill Road in Middlefield early Saturday morning, police say.
State police arrested a 21-year-old Middlefield man for DUI on Saturday after he lost control of his car and crashed into a front yard on Powder Hill Road.
Police say Arthur Miller of Iroquois Road was driving south along Powder Hill Road when his Subaru station wagon "went off the road, went airborn and got wedged between two trees."
The crash happened around 6:25 a.m., according to state police Sgt. Sal Calvo.
Miller was not injured.
He was arrested and taken to Troop F State Police barracks in Westbrook where his bond was set at $500, Calvo said.
The crash in front of 157 Power Hill Road awoke homeowner Bob Maloney, who said the vehicle's airbag was deployed and that Miller was cooperative with police.
The crash damaged a wooden fence and ripped up grass in his yard. A long stretch of tire skid marks were also evident at the scene of the crash although police did not say whether Miller was speeding.
A woman who said she was Miller's mother visited the scene hours after the crash and apologized to Maloney.
"I'm very sorry. We'll take care of this," she said.

Mom going to the accident scene and speaking to the owner was a very courageous act. Her son offering to repair the damage to this man's property would be an equally courageous act, and might put him in good stead with the judge. Many people, myself included, do really stupid things at age 21, so I will not judge him. But Arthur, owning up to it and learning the life lesson that's been presented to you will go a long way toward making you a more responsible adult.
