Deadline Looms For Scholarship Applications

CRHS Scholarship Fund deadline is March 31

High School seniors are running out of time to apply for the Coginchaug Regional H.S. Scholarship Fund. The deadline to apply for the general scholarship is Thursday, March 31.

The Scholarship Award Committee, which carefully reviews each application, guarantees that every CRHS student that plans to attend college or a trade school in the fall and applies for a scholarship will receive some money to help pay for their expenses.

Funding for the general scholarships is possible through three major fundraisers: the Chocolate Covered Banana Booth at the Durham Fair, the Coginchaug Scholarship Ball and through a public appeal for donations in the Town Times, as well as other advertising.

"We were down a bit this year, but there was still a great turnout and folks were incredibly generous as well, so [fundraising] was still a big success," said Tonya Little, President of the committee, about the recent Scholarship Ball, which included a silent auction.

Donor based scholarships range between $100 and $1,000, but the general scholarship amount had not yet been decided because applications are still being accepted. Little said the committee received about 100 applications last year and told Patch there is usually good involvement in the process.

"They can sit home and apply right on the computer. We want the kids to get those apps in!"

Applications and instructions are available on the CRHS Guidance Department website here.

In addition to the general scholarship, donor scholarships with more specific guidelines are also available.

The scholarships will be awarded during Senior Award Night on June 1.
